Not my average sneak peak, but read on to learn about a
FABULOUS FAMILY and see their purty faces:
I am fortunate enough to call these folks
some of my bestest of friends.
They are some damn good people,
if I do say so myself.
They have given up the "American Dream," and broken away
from the temptation of comfort and status
in order to move their family in to a neighborhood that most of us
would feel unsafe even driving through in the middle of the day.
Meet The Summervilles.
They want to see change happen.
Injustice.
Racism.
Poverty.
Indignity.
Are all things that break their heart.
And so, they are doing something about it.
Not just talking about doing something.
Or spouting off about how something needs to be done.
Or spouting off about how something needs to be done.
Or managing a plan that strategizes how to do something in 10 fabulous steps.
But, DOING SOMETHING.
Moving there.
Becoming neighbors and friends.
The people that pass them on their short walk to the park
are drug dealers, prostitutes, convicts, and sex offenders.
All...
image bearers of the Creator.
They are committed to building real relationships,
getting to know the best of Holden Heights,
and learning from long-time residents what matters in the hearts of it's people.
It feels trite to say it,
but that takes time (our most precious commodity)
perseverance (the enemy hates light and wants darkness to stay)
and the mighty power of God.
They inspire me to be the same kind of change that I long to see in this messy world.
Will you join me in praying for The Summervilles?
And if you feel so inclined to know more about and/or support their ministry,
Ahhh love these pictures and these people!! Great job, Melonie! (And is Journey becoming a little rockstar?!) :)
